Paul McElhone
Paul McElhone is a third generation publican from the North Western part of
NSW. After completing school he joined the International Operations Dept of
the National Australia Bank where he studied Accountancy and Real Estate. He
was subsequently involved in the ownership and operation of hotels in NSW and
Queensland and today retains an interest in hotels via family syndicates.
In 1988 he returned to Sydney and joined Max Hitchins in a hotel broking
capacity. Subsequently he has been involved in the successful sale of
numerous leasehold and freehold hotels in three separate states of
Australia. He has also taken control of a number of hotels in a stressed
state on behalf of owners.
Paul has been a lecturer with East Sydney Tafe Liquor Licensees Course for
some eight years.
Max Hitchins
Max Hitchins grew up in the northern NSW town of Moree. His Dad died
unexpectedly at 54. Max and his brother Ernie, as teenagers, were pitched
into running the family freehold pub in Moree. Max and Ernie are still
involved in the operation and ownership of hotels. Max began Hotel Broking
in 1973 with the Sydney firm Henderson & Dutton. In 1980 he began brokering
in his own right in offices in the Sydney Hilton Hotel.
Max lectures to the Hotel Licensees at the Ryde College of TAFE. He is the
author of Hands On Hospitalility; The Hospitality Jungle; Zebra Marketing;
Max's 11 Marketing Commandments and Internet for Inns articles that appear
in AHA magazines around Australia. He is the co-author, with brother
Ernie, of 365 Marketing Ideas For The Hospitality Industry. He is the
co-author, with Dean Egan, of 105 Explosive Marketing Ideas for Gaming
Operators.
